Chennai Shopping Tour

Chennai offers a great shopping experience if you're interested in textiles, home decor, jewellery, traditional or contemporary Indian handicrafts, furniture, art and curios. Chennai is also excellent for wedding shopping, with both North Indian and South Indian style showrooms offering formal clothing for brides and grooms. There are also specialist shops selling wedding accessories such as themed jewellery, jewelled bags and shoes.

Shops are spread across the city, and there are several shopping districts such as T-Nagar (which is legendary for its huge saree and jewellery stores)., Kader Nawaz Khan Road (some of the swankiest shops in town), Cathedral Road, Anna Nagar and Besant Nagar. There are large air-conditioned stores, independent boutiques as well as hole-in-the-wall outlets. In recent years, large malls have come up, containing not just Western-style brands, but also contemporary Indian stores with products reflecting local design preferences.
